What happens on the day of liposuction?
Knowing the sequence helps you prepare and ask focused questions, from health checks, body assessment and marking the treatment areas to wound care and follow-up. Details may differ with the areas treated and the doctor’s plan.
Liposuction is a body-contouring procedure, not a general weight-loss method, and skin tightening is not the same for everyone.
Five main steps of liposuction
- Assess health, skin elasticity and fat thickness.
- Mark the areas and treatment boundaries while standing.
- Provide local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia according to the plan.
- Make small incisions and remove fat with a thin tube, or cannula, using the technique selected by the doctor.
- Care for the wounds, use compression garments where appropriate and arrange follow-up.
Approximate duration
About 1–4 hours, depending on the number of areas, volume, complexity and combined procedures. Do not compare packages only by the number of cc; also ask about scope, safety and the anesthesia team.
