Liposuction aftercare: compression garments and your written care plan

Made Young Plastic Surgery building in Seoul

Compression garments attract plenty of attention in liposuction recovery stories, but they are only one part of aftercare. The most useful document is the care plan from your own treating team. Before leaving the hospital, make sure you understand what applies to your procedure, what has not yet been decided and whom to contact if instructions are unclear.

Get garment instructions that belong to your case

Ask which garment, size and fit the hospital recommends, when it should be worn and how it should be handled for washing or wound checks. Ask whom to contact if it feels wrong. Do not interpret another person’s shopping list as your prescription, or make a garment tighter because you expect a faster result.

Keep wound care and medicines easy to follow

Request a written list of wound-care steps and prescribed medicines with their instructions. Check whether dressings or other items need a review visit. If translated instructions differ from the original, ask the hospital to resolve the difference rather than guessing. Share the final version with the person helping you at your accommodation.

Ask before adding recovery treatments

If massage or device sessions are offered, ask whether your surgeon has included them in the plan, their purpose and who will provide them. A package label is not permission to start a treatment. Tell any other provider about the operation and obtain the treating hospital’s advice before arranging additional services.

Plan the handover before returning home

Confirm the next review, instructions for activity and travel, and the channel for medical questions after departure. Save a concise operation summary and the latest care plan. If you need local care at home, ask the receiving provider in advance whether they can assess you and what records they require; a coordinator cannot promise acceptance on their behalf.

Consultation checklist

  • Record garment type, fit, use and the contact for problems.
  • Keep the final medicine and wound-care instructions together.
  • Confirm review appointments and any proposed additional treatment.
  • Arrange records and a medical contact before departure.

Frequently asked questions

How many weeks should I wear a compression garment?

Obtain a personal instruction from your surgeon. Do not copy a fixed schedule from a different procedure or recovery story.

Can I change the garment if it is uncomfortable?

Contact the treating team for advice about fit and symptoms rather than changing the plan based on online comments.

Can massage replace the follow-up visit?

Do not replace a medical review with a separate service. Ask the hospital which visits and care steps remain necessary.
