Revision plastic surgery in Korea: records to prepare before consultation

Made Young Plastic Surgery building in Seoul

A revision consultation starts with what happened before. The original operation, any materials used, later treatment and your current concern all affect the questions the surgeon needs to answer. Do not expect a photograph or a quote for first-time surgery to establish the scope, timing or outcome of a revision.

Build a timeline instead of guessing the technique

List each procedure with its date, hospital and surgeon when known. Add when your concern appeared and any later assessments or treatment. Request the original operation report and implant information if available. If a detail is missing, write unknown; do not infer a material name or surgical method from the appearance of an old photograph.

Organise images and health information separately

If the treating hospital requests photographs, label their dates or approximate intervals and avoid filters. Keep earlier and current images in order rather than selecting only the most flattering pair. Prepare medicines, supplements, allergies and medical history in a separate list so they are not lost inside a long chat conversation. Use the receiving hospital’s agreed private channel.

Ask what needs examination before a plan can be made

Previous surgery can create factors that are not visible in photographs. Ask which records are still needed, what requires an examination and whether there are reasons to defer or stage treatment. A preliminary response should be read with its conditions intact. It is not confirmation of the final technique or permission to book any preferred operation date.

Separate revision planning from a current medical problem

Do not wait for an overseas itinerary or a chat reply if a current problem needs medical attention. Tell an appropriate clinician what has changed and follow their advice. For planned revision, ask the proposed treating hospital to explain the alternatives, limitations, follow-up arrangements and what the estimate actually covers before making a commitment.

A six-part revision history

  • Previous procedures: dates, institutions and clinician names where known.
  • Available documents: operation reports, test results and material or implant records.
  • Current concern: onset, changes and any previous assessment of it.
  • Health information: medicines, supplements, allergies and relevant conditions.
  • Unfiltered photographs in date order, if requested by the treating team.
  • Your main priority, acceptable trade-offs and questions you want answered.

Frequently asked questions

Must every revision wait six months?

A universal waiting period cannot be established here. Timing depends on the concern and the clinician’s assessment; urgent problems are different from planned revision.

What if I do not know the material used?

State that it is unknown and request records from the original provider. Do not fill gaps with a guess.

Can a photo assessment guarantee the final operation?

No. Ask which parts remain provisional and what examinations or documents are required before a final decision.
