If you hope to have jaw surgery in Korea and continue orthodontics at home, involve both treating teams before booking the operation. A travel schedule alone cannot establish whether the plans fit together. The surgeon and orthodontist need to agree on the treatment sequence and the arrangements for follow-up.
Decide who leads each part of the plan
Ask who is coordinating the surgical and orthodontic decisions, whether orthodontics is needed before the operation, and when treatment can continue afterwards. Confirm that an orthodontist at home is willing and able to take over the proposed plan. These arrangements should be discussed before a deposit, rather than left until your return.
Agree on the records to transfer
Ask the Korean hospital which reports, imaging files, procedure summaries and follow-up instructions it can provide. Keep original documents as well as any translations. The receiving clinician should confirm what they need, so that important information is not missing at the handover.
Check the quotation and time in Korea
Separate the costs of jaw surgery, any additional facial procedures, orthodontics, anesthesia, examinations and imaging. Confirm the required stay and reviews before departure with the hospital. Jaw surgery and cosmetic facial contouring should not be assumed to describe the same treatment.
Prepare a consultation brief
Collect your orthodontic history, existing radiographs, earlier operations, current concerns and possible travel dates. Santongsuai can help organise information and communicate questions between the teams. Diagnosis, the surgical plan and the orthodontic sequence remain the responsibility of the clinicians treating your case.
